How to regrow lettuce from scraps?
A simple guide for regrowing most species of lettuce.

Why regrow lettuce?
Don’t waste any unused part of lettuce. Grow fresh lettuce all year round!
Regrow preparation






Step 1: Measre at least 5 cm from the bottom of the lettuce. Cut the stem wiht a sharp knife.
Step 2: Place the stem in a glass of water. Half of the stem is submerged.
Step 3: Place the glass in a bright location e.g. windowsill.
Step 4. Change the water once every 2-3 days.
Wait about 5-10 days until the leaves starts to grow.
A. Regrow with soil



Step 1: Prepare a pot of organic soil.
Step 2: Cover the stem completely with soil and the newly emerging leaves stay above the soil.
Step 3. Keep the soil moist and put it in a bright spot.
The leaves will get bigger and be ready for harvest in a few weeks.
B. Regrow lettuce hydroponically












Step 1: Prepare a Mason jar and a net cup. Fill the jar with tap water. Make sure the water level is 2-3cm higher than the bottom of the net cup.
Step 2. . Add hydroponics nutrients and mix the solution well. Measure the water with EC meter. The EC level should be around 1.4.
Step 3: Put the lettuce into the net cup.
Step 4: Cover the jar with non-transparent materials e.g. paper/towel.
Step 5: If you have a grow light at home, make sure the basil gets 14-18 hours of light per day! Otherwise, just place near the window with sunlight coming in.
Pros of growing lettuce hydroponically:
- The perfect amount of nutrients are given to the plant. The plants grow faster.
How to harvest?
Remove the leaves that you need.
Ideal environment for growing lettuce in soil in non-controlled environment
Light: Full sun. At least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Loose and Well-drained soil
Ideal environment for growing lettuce hydroponically in controlled environment
Light: Full sun 14-18 hours.
EC: 1.4
pH: 5.5-6
Preferred Methods: Kratky, Deep water culture, Nutrient film technique, Ebb and Flow
Ideal Temperature: 18-24 °C
